[X-World] A Legend In Her Own Mind

Theresa was having a good enough day that Miranda was comfortable leaving her by herself while they went to deal with the troll. She'd puttered around the hideout for a while before stepping outside to sit in the sun. She found a rock in the open to sit on, brushing her hair out with a brush while she looked around.

A small dark furred body watched Theresa from above, an intelligence behind it's eyes that was not wholly it's own. It's movement would catch Therese's eye, as a little red gold mane framed face blinked into the sunlight from the cover of the trees. It was a small monkey, it chattered excitedly at her and bounced around happily before it began to fidget with what appeared to be a tiny backpack on it's back.

Theresa looked at the monkey a little blankly, then looked around, but there was no one around to confirm that she was seeing a monkey with a tiny backpack. She went back to brushing her hair and watching the monkey.

The monkey managed to open the pack and retrieve a small round object, it then moved towards her, pausing every few steps to offer the item and chatter at her. Once the animal was closer, she would be able to make out that the offering was a torn patch.

She looked around again and then tapped her head. When the monkey didn't disappear, she leaned down and held out her hand, "Yes, Mister Monkey. What is it?"

It placed the patch in her hand and then nuzzled it twice before scampering up the nearest tree. As Theresa looked she would see a familiar yellow gold, red and black patch, a circle surrounding a similarly colored 'X', added was roughly stitched black lettering, 'We survive.'."

"Bye, Mister Monkey." Theresa stared at the symbol, comprehension toying with the edges of memory. Then she shoved the patch into a pocket and went back to brushing her hair.

Some time later, Brigid follows Jen into the hideout. She looks around warily.

There's humming coming from one of the other rooms. Everything seems tidier than it was when Jennifer and Miranda left that morning.

"Oh thank god, she didn't wander off." They'd entered the building from the roof after crossing over from a nearby building with the help of a massive tree. The entire hideout seems to be tucked away between a lot of growth in general, which does a good job of concealing the place.

"Theresa, I'm back!" she announces their presence. "And I found a friend."

Brigid takes a deep breath. In spite of what she had to go through to get here, what Miranda and Jen said is weighing heavy on her. She heads along with Jen.

"Jenn!" Theresa said, coming out of her room. Her tone didn't care the fire that Brigid might have expected. "I saw a monkey today! He had a tiny backpack." She didn't seem to have noticed Brigid just yet.

"Tiny monkey with a backpack. That's nice, Theresa." she says in a tone that suggests she's used to Theresa getting confused between her imagination and reality but trying to be nice anyway.

"We met someone too. Do you remember Brigid?"

Brigid gives a sheepish wave that looks out of place with her current image.

"I'm... sorry it took me this long to get here."

"You got bigger," she said, looking Brigid over. She looked back at Jennifer, "Randa's okay?"

"Randa and Jenn take care of me," Theresa said, smiling broadly. Then her eyes widened, "Almost forgot. Mister Monkey brought a message." She began patting her pockets, searching for something.

"Take your time." she says with a bit of put-on patience.

"She remembers you, that's a good sign."

"I... maybe..." she mumbled, wandering back into her room where the sounds of searching continued.

"So, how are things out there in the only regularly-crazy world?" she asks while Theresa is distracting herself. Jennifer figures it'd only upset her to distract her from her monkey-message.

"Not good. More and more mutants emerging. Riots. Order's breaking down. It won't be long before everywhere is like here."

"I found it!" Theresa cried out, coming back out with something in her hand. "It was in my pocket," she said sheepishly, offering the patch the monkey had given her earlier.

"He's Mister Monkey," she said, like that should be obvious. "He was about this big," she said, showing the size with her hands, "he had a fuzzy face. I don't think I've met him before."

"Okay," Theresa said, leading them out to where she'd been sitting on the rock. It wasn't all that far from the building where the hideout was.

Theresa was looking around and she smiled up into one of the trees, waving, "Hi, Mister Monkey."

There was a happy chatter from the tree as a golden-headed lion tamarin with a small pack swung down to Theresa, followed closely by a green military parrot. "Hello, Pack sisters."
