Michael 'Ignis' Buskirk

Name: Micahel 'Ignis' Buskirk
Nickname(s): Mike, Buzz
Age: 20
Country of Origin: USA
Hometown: Portland, Maine
Birthday: September 22, 1995 (assuming it is 2015)

Power: Pyrokinetic - Ignis is a pyrokinetic, and this is how he chose his codename. He can create flame from virtually nothing, the only requirement being that there is enough oxygen to burn. This power can be used to manipulate and control existing fire within a certain distance as well (as determined by the GM's). Like the Human Torch, he is also able to transform into a sort of 'living flame'. He can ignite his entire body, or just parts of it (usually just his arms or his legs). He can fly, and pushing his limits can reach an estimated speed of Mach 4.

His metabolism is highly efficient, and he produces virtually no bodily waste. This also means he is almost constantly hungry, and never gains a pound. Fire, after all, consumes everything.

Personality: Mike is a very outgoing and happy-go-lucky sort of guy. He's a straight shooter and is often considered blunt. He's quick to smile and make friends. He also has a fiery temper. However, his temper often simply flares, he blows up, then he just as quickly cools down and is possibly apologetic for any outbursts. He does have a slower burning temper, and when this reaches its limit - watch out.

Description: The first thing people notice about Mike is his hair. Bright red and cut short atop his head, with a beard to match. He's a pretty big guy, standing two inches over six feet in height, with an athletic musculature and weighing 225 pounds.

His clothing tends toward casual - or hardly any at all. He favors simple clothes, jeans and tees, and is often seen in shorts with bare feet and no shirt. His unnaturally high body heat makes almost all clothing feel uncomfortable and binding, and he much prefers to feel air on his skin.

Background: Mike was born in Portland, Maine - the son of a fishing boat captain and a schoolteacher. He is the third child of five, with two older brothers and two younger sisters. Being in the middle he often struggled for attention from his parents and even more often was picked on by his elder brothers. All in all though he grew up in a loving home. School however was another matter. He found himself constantly picked on, bullied mostly because of his pale skin and red hair. A 'ginger kid', Mike had little self-esteem by the time he reached junior high, and one particular afternoon he was being picked on by some of the school's football players. One older brother who was on the team, simply stood by and failed to defend him, and Mike just... snapped. Grabbing the closest tormentor he tackled the bully to the ground, and despite the helmet that the boy wore, Mike began to throw punches. By the time they pulled him off the bully the larger boy was unconscious and even more startling were the burns on his body.

The bully spent a couple days in the hospital, the burns not too bad, and Mike as shocked and as apologetic as one could be. It didn't take long for his folks to send him off to Xavier's, where he learned to control his power and his temper, for the most part.

Looks alright to me except for one thing. Mach 4 flight as a "side" power is incredibly fast and I'd reccomend tuning that down some. Flight itself is fine but maybe not quite "breaking the sound barrier" fast.

Also, a bunch of us browse the boards from work and while I am totally in favor of some beefcake characters, I went ahead and cropped that image a bit so there's less pubes in it. Original is still there if you click on it. >_>

So he can approach Mach 1 but not quite break it. Gotcha. I wanted something else besides simple pyrokinesis since it seems most people here have a "set" of powers which include several other abilities. Ignis is considerably less powerful than Human Torch, for example, even though their power set is basically the same.

I've no problem, of course, with the cropping of the picture.

A set of powers is perfectly fine and pyrokinesis/flight is a good combination that fits well together. Mach 4 is just faster than any character (including the one who is bit of an aerial ace) or even the Quinjet can manage (I think?). Plus it leaves some room for growth.

Alright! Glad to be approved.

So where's a good place to start?

Posting a thread arriving at the school is always good for initial introductions. Otherwise there's about to be a bonfire thread right here that should have a bunch of characters out and about that'd be good for meeting people too.

You're free to post wherever you like!

There is a campus bonfire starting in the "Gardens and Estate" subforum, if you want to interact with as many new characters as possible--that might be a good place to start. Otherwise, you could post your character showing up at the gates, where someone would meet them. That seems to be our equivalent of the old "four characters meet in a tavern" trope.

EDIT: What Nailah said.

I'll likely jump in at the bonfire, since my bakstory has had him at the school for probably about 6 years.

That works too. We can always handwave a bit about people having been around but not involved in stuff. The school only opened 2 in-game years ago, but he could be a graduate of the old Xavier's Institute in New York and then have moved on to the University when it opened.
