Power: Michael opens wormholes, allowing him to effectively teleport from one location to another. He does this by "tunneling" between/through other dimensions from the prime back to our own. He only catches glimpses of the dimensions he passes through and, to his knowledge, he can't stop in any of them. The effect itself appears as a hole or tunnel. Short trips (about the length of a city block with a location visible to him) are nearly instantaneous while trips across an ocean (say from London to New York City) could take upwards of an hour or more. The effect remains visible for as long as the trip takes. Theoretically someone with super speed or dimensional travel ability could use the tunnel if it's open, but doing so is dangerous since Michael's exit starts the collapse of the passage.
He can take other people or things with him, so long as they're connected to him in some way (holding hands, tied together with rope). Anyone or anything that goes in with him that becomes separated from him runs the risk of being forcibly ejected from the tunnel at high speed as it closes. Theoretically this is because Michael is actually travelling through the wormhole at high speed and subconsciously exerts a slowing influence on things attached to him upon exit.
Personality: Michael always seems a little off. He's told his therapist that it's because of the things he's glimpsed when tunneling, but his parents always described him as off even before his powers emerged. He has something of a temper that's gotten him into trouble several times, but it's mostly under control these days.
Description: Michael is just a little shorter than average with short cut brown hair and blue eyes. He dresses in fairly standard casual stock with a leaning towards the "cheap" end of the cost spectrum.
Background: Michael was born and raised in London. He was in and out of trouble in school, mostly for his temper and a general disregard for the authority of the teachers who didn't know how to handle him. When his powers emerged, his parents shuffled him off on the state and moved without leaving a forwarding address. A ward of the state, Michael eventually ended up in a government education program that helped him get a handle on his abilities and finished his secondary school education.
He promptly got into trouble with the law after secondary school. As a condition of his release, it was strongly suggested that he attend the university in hopes that he might make something more of his life. He managed to work it out with the university to attend, provided he continues to keep his nose clean and his grades up. This is a new concept for him, but one to which he seems more or less dedicated.
