Issue 1 Downtime

Nailah's composure after returning from her talk with Persephone lasts about as long as closing the door. Then it's immediately followed by her punching the wall, a move that she regrets pretty much immediately at the pain shooting through her hand.

Not long after, the door opened. Samantha looked more than a little disheveled, and was clutching something tightly in her hand. She closed the door roughly and just leaned against it for a moment, taking a few breaths.

"What the hell happened to you?" Nailah asks, sounding worried.

"Bell is dealt with," she said simply.

"Good. I think..." she says. "Are you alright?"

"Didn't... didn't come along peaceably," she said, pushing away from the door, her one hand still clutching tightly.

"But it had to be done."

She lifted her hand up, finally relaxing her grip on the now-visible single bloodstone.

"...it hurt."

"Is that..." she leans a bit closer to look at the stone. "If that is what I think it is, why didn't it dissolve when you got it back?"

She starts as Nailah leans in, her hand closing quickly before she relaxes it again.

"I... I don't know. Bell wanted to keep it..."

"Hey, I'm not going to take it." she says, standing up straight again when she notices Sam being jumpy.

"What do you... wait, that's... she ripped out Nemain!?"

She nodded slowly.

"I don't quite know what to do..."

"How does that even work..." she mumbles. "Don't worry, we'll... we'll figure something out here to fix this..."

She sighed, making her way over to the couch.

"I nearly did it. My hands were around her throat..."

"Well we'll work on that. Just try to keep that connection alive for now." she says and goes to fetch a couple of books.

There was a noise somewhere between a sigh and a growl from her. "...fine."

"I'll... give you some time to get comfortable with the idea." she says, sitting down and spreading the books out on the coffee table.

"Nnh," she grunted, turning the bloodstone over in her hand repeatedly. Her whole frame seemed tense, twitchy, full of nervous energy.

"Okay, maybe we need to do some damage control first here. You think I could be of some help in there." she asks, gently putting her hand on Sam's cheek.

She curled a lip at the attention, her teeth faintly sharp.

"...no."

"Suppose it was a long shot." she sighs faintly.

"Can I touch it?" she asks carefully.

She seemed to consider it a moment, a flicker of something in her expression, before finally she held up the bloodstone betwixt two long-nailed fingers, the tiny figure of Nemain visible within it.

"There."

"I can't imagine how hard this must be, so I want you to know that I realize how much you trust me." she says as she carefully takes the stone and closes her eyes, trying to feel out the enchantments that are trapping part of Sam within.

Samantha twitched again as she lost physical contact with the stone, shifting her weight in her seat.
